As with most of my projects, I wouldn't say that I'm completely satisfied with the finished result, because I know that if we had a little bit more time, it could have been so much better.
I know that during the shoot I did my best, however, I wasn't at my best and I feel like that reflects in the footage. But due to how much time we had left, there was no time for me to be sick and for us to reschedule the whole day. I was using a new camera which was both scary and exciting, but I chose to shoot this with a DSLR deliberately, as I never used it before and wanted to see the difference between a DSLR and other cameras I have used. And it is a very big difference and personally, I found it hard to get more comfortable and confident while using it as it didn't have the features I was used to seeing in other cameras. I found it really hard to focus with a DSLR when it came to tracking and other moving shots where the focus needs to change, however, I think I did a pretty good job at it. Fig rig was another completely new thing that I used for this project. I can see how it comes in handy and the footage looks less shaky than without it, but I found it impossible to change focus while actually filming when using a fig rig. Having done the research on the camera itself, we probably needed some sort of attachment to help with that.
However, there are still some shots that I'm happy about one of them being the track shot in the bar with the client played by Lauren. I think it would have been a really cool idea to go back from Catherine to the client just to see another client sitting in the chair, however, it's a good concept, but doesn't work wor the montage we were doing.
Another shot that I really like is the close-up on Catherine's eyes. That shot really delivers her emotions and shows how tired she is. After colour grading and lowering the saturation, it just got better. As colour is very important in our film, draining the colour out represents how drained she is and is crucial to her story unraveling.
For some reason I found it scary to film this project, maybe it was the new camera I was using, maybe it was something else, but I was more scared than excited about it. While doing my research on being a DOP I found a little motivation in that Shiflet's Director of Photography "Thirty-Six": Problems and Solutions for Shooting a Feature Film said that fear can help you to concentrate and focus on your job better and looking back I believe it did.
