Evaluation

Personally, I feel like this unit was a lot like our documentary unit which wasn't bad, but as my job in the group was operating the camera, it made it a bit difficult to research on, because it feels like I've done most of it last year. However, I feel like I've gotten better at lighting as this was one of my weak spots, that and holding the shots before and after zooming in/out, which I improved on as well. I honestly like working in a group more than working alone like in our first 2 units last year as it is easier to share the load of work and everyone can focus on what they have to do for the project. Other than that, I loved working with my group and having Lauren as our director, because I feel like she's really good at communicating what she wants me to do on the shoot. For the things that went wrong, well first of all we had to re-shoot our 'live', probably partialy because I couldn't be there on the day of our first shoot as we initialy planed ...

After Effects Workshop

During the workshop we learned how to edit with green screen  For this we used Keylight. The first thing was to change the background colour to green using the dropper tool, then click on 'screen matte' which made the image look like this:   Afterwards we could put the backgorund and we also learned how to move and change the scale of the image to make it fit behind the desk in the background. The video : The video is too long, but i've only noticed it a few days after the workshop and I had already deleted the work from the uni's mac. Then we learned how to make titles, put shadows and boxes behind them. The video is again way longer than necessary.

Branding

Our brand is technology news, aimed at teens and adults interested in tech (15-35 year olds), gaming and it's consequences on people's health. Our main inspiration was BBC's show 'Click'. While others were editing I was put on creating our channel and it's description. We chose YouTube as  our platform , because of few resons. First of all we knew how to use it and it's 'free' to use for everyone and secondly, knowing that we would need to make a promo, it has a feature to pin a certain video to welcome new viewers and introduce what the channel is about.  So because our programme is semi-formal and inspired by BBC's programme, I looked into BBC News channels description and noticed that it's written in a interactive way with a lot of questions. It also plugs their other platforms and encourages people to download their apps.   BBC DESCRIPTION OUR DESCRIPTION We obviosly didn't create other social media platfo...

News Research

20th of September 2018 It starts with the reader reading over the headlines while the BBC's signature news music is playing in the background. Each headline has pictures and some graphics to illustrate them. Then they play the intro to the programme with even more graphics that are very on brand for BBC (colour red, the globe) and the pictures also illustrate what the programme is about it has businesspeople going somewhere and shots of Canary Wharf that stand for the business segment and etc. After the intro the reader shows a picture of a plane with misspelled company name and encourages the viewers to share their work failures on social media using a hashtag. This way the news becomes more interractive. They show the intro one more time to segway into the actual news. The first story about Brexit gets introduced by the reader who sends us to the package. Instead of using the video or audio on screen, the reporter reads the quote as it appears on the screen....

Camera work and lighting

The Green Screen Filming news is a lot like filming the documentaries. However working with green screen was more difficult than it might have seemed from the first thought. First of all the green screen must be evenly lit and, as we learned in our green screen workshop, there has to be fixed distance from the green screen to a person. Even though we seemed to light Michael pretty well, he moved few steps back and ended up blending in with the background. and so on our actual shoot we had a bit of tape that showed where the news reader should stand. That helped a lot with bothe the lighting and framing as the other thing I've learned is to make sure that the news presenter is in the middle and that the shot should be either a close up or a wide (unless theres a desk). Also, it made me remember to check that the camera was leveled with the readers eyes as during our workshop it was just a bit lower. To light our set we used 4 lights, 2 for the background and 2(key and fi...

Pitching the idea for The Firm

The idea I had after reading the email from Emma, is to film sequences (setting up, people networking, the speakers and etc) and editing it to the upbeat music, as that is what the representetive from The Firm wanted (fun, upbeat and snappy). And in the end we can add someone saying why it's worth to attend the conference and sign up for the membership.
